The Rainbow Lodge

The historic Rainbow Lodge is situated on 114 acres with a 19,500 sq ft main lodge with a restaurant and bar seating 147 guest, 33 guest rooms (of which 6 are set aside for staff), a 2000 +/- sq ft owner’s cabin, Artesian Spring water rights and approximately a half mile or river frontage along the Yuba River.  There are 28 private homes on the property.  There is an easement to access the homes and the owners own directly below their home.

History and interesting tidbits:  Originally built in 1869 was a stage coach building.  This is the right side of the lodge where the bridal suite and game room is currently located.  The left side of the lodge which is the dining area and entry was added in 1927.  Herstle Jones purchased it in 1927 and gave it the name of Rainbow Tavern and Trout Farm as they would catch trout in the river and prepare the fish for dinner.  During the Prohibition the downstairs was used as a speakeasy which is now storage.  In the 1990’s, The Rainbow Lodge became part of The Royal Gorge Ski Resort which was sold in 2005.  The Mitchells purchased the lodge in 2004 and completed many improvements.  The J-Bar Tavern is named after the J-bar ski lift which was added to the property in 1939.

The approximate property boundaries run from the river to the railroad tracks, from the bridge to the highway, to the left side of the red house, then back the highway.

The lodge consists of 11 gold rooms which have their own bathrooms and showers, 7 silver rooms which have bathrooms and small showers, and 4 copper rooms which have a sink and common bathrooms in the hallway.

The Artesian Springs that feed the property feed approx 70 gallons per minute.  There may be an option to bottle water by improving the water tanks.  Currently it is possible to sell the water for construction or agriculture.  The pond is filled by the springs.

There is a search and rescue helicopter pad with tie downs on the granite rocks across the street.  The property runs on propane gas.  The septic system was upgraded in 2007.
