The ski area at Northstar is a family friendly resort with more challenging terrain on the back side. They have groomed runs as well as tree skiing. There are 18 lifts including a gondola, six quad lifts and a six pack. Also, there are five terrain parks, six adventure parks with halfpipes and a superpipe. From many locations you can see the Sierras but the best views are at the top. There are many options for food and drinks on the mountain as well as in the village.
The Squaw Valley Ski Resort is located in Squaw Valley which is approximately 5 miles from Tahoe City, 8 miles from Truckee, and just under 200 miles from San Francisco. The mountain offers world class skiing and attracts people from all over. They have many groomed trails and you'll find many challenging outcroppings and 2800 vertical feet. The Squaw Creek Golf Course is located at The Resort at Squaw Creek in Squaw Valley. This is a very challenging golf course and takes precision strikes and lay ups to score well. It is 18 holes with par of 71 and covers 6931 yards. The course winds through pine trees on the side of the mountain and through a marshy flat area.

Alpine Meadows Ski Resort is a local's favorite and offers skiing and riding for all levels. The lodge is open 8 am till 5 pm and the mountain is open 9 am to 4 pm. In November of 2011, Squaw and Alpine joined forces. Currently a ski shuttle runs between the resorts. It is approx a 5 mile drive.
Alpine has 7 bowls consisting of 2,400 skiable acres. There are 13 lifts and 100+ runs. The base elevation is 6,385 ft and the summit Elevation is 8,637 ft. Average snowfall each year is 450 inches.
Grays Crossing is located on the North East side of Truckee off of Hwy 89. It is named after Joseph Gray who founded Truckee in 1863. The golf course was designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy.

Coyote Moon is located on the west side of Truckee off of Northwoods Blvd just before you reach Tahoe Donner. This is a challenging course and has spectacular views not only from hole to hole but also of the surrounding mountains. One nice thing is that there are not any homes on Coyote Moon. Brad Bell, a former PGA Tour player, designed the course. It consists of 250 acres and has large pine trees, granite outcroppings and Trout Creek runs through it.
The Tahoe Donner Golf Course is located in the center of the Tahoe Donner community. Tahoe Donner is located just west of Truckee. It has great views of the surrounding mountains and wanders through many pine trees, over creeks, and past rock formations. From the black tees the course is just over 7000 yards with a par of 72. They have a great driving range and offer lessons, clinics, cart rentals and club rentals.
Tahoe Donner's ski area is located on the west side of the community and is great for beginner and intermediate skiers. They have 14 runs covering 120 skiable acres with 1 quad lift, 1 double lift and 3 conveyor lifts and 3 terrain parks. They offer skiing and snowboarding lessons for youths and adults and kids as young as 3 years old. They also have fun programs and special events for everyone in the family.
