If you're lucky enough to spend even a few days of your summer vacation on the shores Lake Tahoe, California, you're in for a treat. 

No matter what you're into, there are lots of fun events and adventures for you to enjoy this summer. 

Make the Most of Your Summer in North Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is an area rich in history, culture, and art.

So, before we dive into our list of fun events you should be taking advantage of this summer, we're going to share some fun facts about this breathtaking area.

Without further ado, here are the 10 best events taking over Lake Tahoe this summer.

1. Live at Lakeview: Free Summer Concert Series on the Beach

Who doesn't love free events? Live at Lakeview is a free concert series that repeats every Thursday until August 30. So, if you miss one or two, there still are plenty of awesome shows for you to enjoy.

The concert series is hosted at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe. Not only can you enjoy great live music, again, it's free you will have full access to the beach.

This event is family friendly, so you can back your kids up and bring hem along while still getting them into bed on time. The music starts at 4:30 pm and ends at 8:30 pm.

There will also be tons of local merchants, plentiful food options, and gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe from the beer garden. Parking on the premises is limited, so consider arriving early or carpooling.

There is also a complimentary bike valet service that will be available for this event every week. The valet service is in memory of Rocky Heether, who died in a bike crash.

These Lake Tahoe summer nights include Christie Huff Band with Patrick Walsh, Ideateam with Darren Senn, and surprise reggae performances.

2. Control - A Janet Jackson Tribute at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe

To say the very least, Janet Jackson is an icon. After releasing her debut album at the age of 16, she proceeded to make history and shatter records as a singer and actress along the way.

Mark June 29 on your calendar as the night you and your friends will spend dancing to Janet Jackson's best hit songs. This tribute is brought to you by Erika Malone and her band Eminence.

The show begins at 9:00 pm and is at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe. You have to be 21 or older for this event and the tickets are $15 each.

And if this tribute show isn't enough Janet for you, catch her performance at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys on Friday, August 10. The concert starts at 8:00 pm.


3. Lakefront Luau at the Beach Retreat & Lodge

You can't have a Lake Tahoe summer without a luau.

Tickets are already on sale for the Summer Luau at the Beach Retreat & Lodge on June 30. This popular beach party includes dinner, a show, and good times.

The ticket for adults is $60 and gets you:

  • Access to the luau buffet
  • Live music and entertainment
  • One Mai-tai
  • One Hawaiian Lei

Children who are 12 and younger require a $30 ticket that includes:

  • Access to the luau buffet
  • Live music and entertainment
  • One Tahoe punch
  • One Hawaiian Lei

If you have a child 3 years old or less, they will get in for free.

Please keep in mind that seating reservations cannot be made in advance. So, if you have a large party and would all like to sit together, you should arrive early.

If you're unable to make it to the June 30 luau, this Tahoe event will repeat three more times this summer. You can purchase tickets for:

  • Saturday, July 21, 2018
  • Friday, August 17, 2018
  • Saturday, September 15, 2018

The lakefront event starts at 6:00 pm and ends at 9:00 pm. Check-in for the event begins at 5:30 pm.

4. Tahoe Improv Players at Valhalla Art

The Tahoe Improv Players have been performing for about 22 years. Their hilarious show is based on audience suggestions that they act out on the spot without any preparation.

This kid-friendly event is a great way to enjoy your Lake Tahoe summer nights and make memories as a family. The first show starts on June 30 at 7:30.

Chances are, you won't be able to get enough after the first performance. So, you can also catch the group on July 10, 24, and 31 at the Boathouse Theatre.

This is another event where parking is limited. So, you should consider using public transportation or carpooling with friends for this one.

5. Lights on the Lake Fireworks

Our summer event list couldn't be complete without an option for you to celebrate the Fourth of July with your friends or family.

According to the Today Show, Tahoe South's Lights on the Fireworks is one of the country's top celebrations for Fourth of July weekend. So, if you're going to be in the area, this isn't an event you'll want to skip.

This cruise includes a catered dinner, music, and unlimited wine, beer, and champagne. The fireworks are set to begin at 9:45 pm.

6. American Century Celebrity Golf Championship 2018

The American Century Celebrity Golf Championship will be held along the beautiful shores of Lake Tahoe. Season passes and daily tickets are available for purchase here. Military discounts are also available.

The event takes place from July 10 through July 15. While this years' celebrity participants haven't been announced, some from last year are Alex Smith, Kenny Lofton, and Jim McMahon.

7. Music in the Castle at Vikingsholm

Musicians John Metras, Paul DaSilva, Noreen Valdes, and Dr. David Nelson would love for you to join them on July 14 at the gorgeous Vikinsholm castle. The array of performances will be eclectic, featuring songs from Broadway, classical Norweigien pieces, and Latin music to name a few.

Additionally, there will be a twilight reception in the elegant courtyard with wine and hors-d'oeuvres after the Lake Tahoe concert.

The tickets are $100 and a reservation is required. The venue will only seat 30 guests.



8. The Temptations at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa

The Temptations were one of the most successful groups on Barry Gordy's Motown label. Over 50 years after they made their mark, The Temptations still melt fans' hearts with their timeless sound and smooth dance moves.

Although most of the original lineup is now deceased, its members carry the spirit of what made the group successful in the first place. Charisma and great singing.

The Temptations will be performing on August 3 at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa. If You have a feel for old-school melodies, this show is for you. The show starts at 8:00 pm.


9. Tahoe Blue Vodka Bloody Mary Competition Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Lake Tahoe

The bartenders of Lake Tahoe need your help in judging their seventh annual Bloody Mary competition. Leave the kids at home for this one and enjoy performances from live bands, DJs, and dancers.

This Tahoe event will be hosted around the pool, so bring your swimsuit and join the cannonball contest. Tickets are $40 each and the event is on August 12.

10. North Lake Tahoe Triathlon

The Lake Tahoe summer Triathlon takes place annually during the fourth weekend of August. It's truly one of the most beautiful triathlon courses in the country.

Whether you prefer to participate by racing or cheering, this is sure to be a great time. This year, the events are taking place on August 25 and 26.

The North Lake Tahoe Triathlon is known to sell out, so purchase your tickets as soon as possible if you plan on attending.

Year-Round Entertainment

Lake Tahoe has something for everyone. It is one of the very few places where you can enjoy vast outdoor activities throughout the entire year.

The warmer seasons are all about fun water activities like swimming, kayaking, and windsurfing. And of course, there aren't many days that will go by without the opportunity to celebrate at live music with friends and family.
