Schaffer’s Mill is a gated golf course community in the Martis Valley between The Village at Northstar and Truckee. Schaffer’s Mill Golf & Lake Club, formerly Timilick, was ranked by Golf Week Magazine in 2010 as the “#1 Best New Private Course in California”. The course was designed by the team of Johnny Miller and John Harbottle and they created the Schaffer’s Mill course with two distinct nine-hole experiences. The front nine, the "Meadow nine", runs through firs, spruce and pine trees at the base of the ridge. The back nine, the "Mountain nine", has elevation changes of up to 400 feet and has incredible views of Lookout Mountain and the Carson Range.
At Northstar is Base Camp. It is located in the village across from Starbucks. It is the main meeting place for all activities included at the village and mountain; skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, hiking, etc. Members will have ski and snowboard equipment storage, boot dryers, lockers, coffee, tea, water, and hot chocolate, as well as entertainment for the whole family. With Schaffer's Mill providing shuttle service to Base Camp, members can have an experience similar to ski-in / out facilities and conveniences.
Schaffer's Mill consists of 218 home sites and 188 mountain lodges and cabins on 475 acres. Approximately 300 acres will be dedicated to open space. Home sites range from 1/4 acre to 3/4 acres. Lodges range from 1,972 to 2,684 sq ft and cabins range from 2,500 to 3,000+ sq ft.
