Glenbrook (Roughly eight miles north of Stateline on Hwy 50)

Glenbrook is the oldest golf course in Nevada and was a favorite spot of Ben Hogan, Bing Crosby, and Frank Sinatra. Gold digest ranked Glenbrook as one of the top 9 hole resort courses in the world. Facilities include a driving range, putting green, cart rentals, pro shop, restaurant, and bar. The course can be tough to find, be sure to call for directions.

Edgewood (Behind the Horizon Casino)

Rumored to be one of the most photographed sites in the world, you can enjoy the views by driving the seemingly suspended highway, stop at one of the overlooks, or if you want a bit of exercise follow the trail down to Vikingsholm. The “country home” was built in 1929 and is a 38 room replica of a Scandinavian home. Vikingsholm is open for tours in the summer. Hwy 89 between Tahoe City and South Shore.

Beaches from Emerald Bay East to Cave Rock

Emerald Bay (Nine miles northwest from the Y in South Lake Tahoe)

This beautiful spot sits within the Emerald Bay State Park, a turquoise bay that is framed by granite peaks. The beach is a good mile walk from the parking lot. The trail descends 500 feet in elevation but the views are worth the effort. Sitting in front of the Vikingsholm Castle, a replica of a Scandinavian castle, the sandy beach is a great place for a picnic. Trails follow the beach in both directions and offer miles of great hiking.

Baldwin Beach (Four miles northwest of the Y in South Lake Tahoe)

Thunderbird Lodge- George Whittell Jr.’s historic estate was built in the 1930’s and is open for summer tours. The guided tours are lead by Incline Village Visitor’s center. For more information call (775)832-1606. The estate includes the Card House, Boat House, Elephant House, Lighthouse and a 600 foot-long underground tunnel. There is no on-site paking.

Cave Rock- Between Incline village and South Lake Tahoe. Drive through what is actually the neck of an old volcano. It was formed during the ice ages and is just north of a Nevada State beach which is perfect for a picnic, some fishing, or just relaxing.
