Located on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Maritime Museum's mission is to stimulate an interest in and an understanding of Lake Tahoe's rich maritime history through the highest standards of historic preservation, innovative interpretation and public education.

Tahoe Maritime Museum in Homewood reopened summer of 2008 in a new 5,800-square-foot facility with interactive exhibits, children’s visiting area and community gathering area. The museum, reminiscent of an old boathouse, showcases the history of boating in Lake Tahoe. Several historical watercraft, including the Shanghai, an 1890s excursion, and Redskin, a rare 1912 Canadian-built displacement boat, are on display.

The Tahoe Maritime Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The Museum operates two facilities, a public museum in Homewood, California, and an Annex/Warehouse facility in Truckee, California.

The Tahoe Maritime Museum is a member of the American Association of Museums, the American Association for State and Local History, and the California Association of Museums.
