Beaches from Emerald Bay East to Cave Rock

Emerald Bay (Nine miles northwest from the Y in South Lake Tahoe)

This beautiful spot sits within the Emerald Bay State Park, a turquoise bay that is framed by granite peaks. The beach is a good mile walk from the parking lot. The trail descends 500 feet in elevation but the views are worth the effort. Sitting in front of the Vikingsholm Castle, a replica of a Scandinavian castle, the sandy beach is a great place for a picnic. Trails follow the beach in both directions and offer miles of great hiking.

Baldwin Beach (Four miles northwest of the Y in South Lake Tahoe)

On the grounds of the Tallac Historic site this beach is an ideal setting. Baldwin beach has a white sandy beach with views across the lake to Heavenly Ski Resort. The grounds often host fairs, music festivals, and art shows.

Kiva Beach (Three miles northwest of the Y in South Lake Tahoe)

From Richardson’s Resort to the Kiva Beach Picinic area, this is a great beach to visit on the bicycles. Park in the Kiva Beach parking area and walk or ride down to find your piece of heaven.

Camp Richardson’s Resort (2.5 miles northwest of the Y in South Lake Tahoe)

The beach and the resort offer lots of water activities, including kayak tours and rentals, parasailing, boat rentals, and cruises to Emerald Bay. The beach is a popular spot as guests from the campground as well as the resort frequent this beach.

Pope Beach (Two miles northwest of the Y in South Lake Tahoe)

Pope beach is a nice large beach with plenty of room to accommodate the weekend crowds. The Upper Truckee River enters the lake near Pope Beach. The surrounding wetlands have been preserved as a wildlife sanctuary for nesting birds.

Thomas Reagan Memorial Beach (South Lake Tahoe – US 50 – Lakeview Drive – Sacramento Street)

This beach is managed by the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Department. The beach faces north and offers great views, shallow water for swimming, a playground, and a concession.

El Dorado Beach (South Lake Tahoe – between Rufus and Lakeview Drive)

The South Lake Tahoe Recreation Department manages this beach. The beach is roughly a mile long and the water is shallow. Views are to the north from this beach.

Connolly Beach (South Lake Tahoe behind the Timber Cove Lodge)

The beach is managed by the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Department. While small this beach offers shallow water for the little ones.

Round Hill Pines Beach (Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe - 1.5 miles northeast of the California/Nevada state line)

This beach has it all. A private concession manages the facilities on this US Forest Service property. The property includes watercraft rentals, a heated pool, a couple of sand volleyball courts, a snack bar, as well as picnic and barbeque facilities. portions of the grounds may be rented out for group events.

Nevada Beach (Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe – roughly 2 miles northeast of the California/Nevada state line at Elk point road)

At the south end of this beach is an area designated for boat in use. The beach has sand dunes...great for the kids but its a little rough when the afternoon winds are blowing.

Zephyr Cove Beach (Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe – Four miles northeast of the California/Nevada state line)

This beach offers something for the entire family. A private concession offers boat rentals, daily cruises to Emerald Bay, Barbeques with picnic tables, as well as operating the restaurant at the Zephyr Cove Resort.

Cave Rock (Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe – roughly seven miles northeast of the California/Nevada state line)

This beach offers a boat launch and is a busy spot during boating season. The beach offers a barbeque and picnic area as well as restrooms.
