Coronado is Spanish for "the crowned one," and thus it's nickname The Crown City. Coronado is a peninsula connected to the mainland by a 10 mile strip of land called the Silver Strand. A two mile bridge, the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, built in 1969, connects Coronado to Downtown.  Orange Avenue is the main thoroughfare and offers a delightful collection of shops and services including a small movie theater, a public 18-hole golf course, a driving range, 17 parks, bike paths, and a town swimming pool.
