South Lake Tahoe has a year round population of 34,000 residents. In the higher elevations, snowfall averages 300 – 500 inches a year. Lake Tahoe is a relatively young lake dating back 10,000 to 11,000 years ago. Emerald Bay, Cascade Lake, and Fallen Leaf Lake were formed by glaciers. Emerald Bay State Park was designated a national natural landmark in 1969. It features “Vikingsholm” which is a great example of Scandinavian architecture. Emerald Bay also has Fannette Island, which is the only island on Lake Tahoe and atop the island, 150 feet above the water, is the Tea House.

South Lake Tahoe is great for both summer and winter time enthusiasts.
